2020 Audi RS Q8 Tech Highlights

Audi takes the already powerful Q8 to the next super charged level and gives you a futuristic easily customizable virtual cockpit

This German jewel breaks new ground. It has a coupe-SUV style, but it’s not just about the looks. The RS Q8 set a Nurburgring lap record, and took down Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S. At the same time, it offers the latest technology that allows you to customize your luxury ride.

The Power of a Sports Car

Going from zero to sixty in 3.8 seconds, the Audi RS Q8 has more than just plush looks to keep you in the driver’s seat. The 2020 RS Q8 has a 4.0-liter V8 that’s twin-turbocharged. And it’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Ultimately the duo gives this Audi 591 horsepower. You’ll be able to go zero to sixty in 3.8 seconds. Some of its features include:

  • Configurable driving modes
  • All-wheel drive
  • Short overhangs and variable ground clearance

And with the all-wheel drive and ground clearance, the RS Q8 can handle off road adventures. But its forte is on the road power with elegance.

Customize Your Q8 Driving Experience

Most of the Q8’s driving time will be spent in comfort mode. Although it does have 591 horses available, you can ease it into a luxury drive. Even though it has a sports exhaust, it’s a quiet vehicle. It’s built for comfort.

It also has an efficiency mode. This will coax every mile it can out of a tank of gas. But be warned, it won’t be as exciting to drive. Dynamic mode is an all-out way to exploit the power and versatility of this SUV.

RS 1 and RS 2 modes are available to those of you who want the sports car experience.

A Chassis that can Handle the Power

The Q8 chassis is technologically advanced. It comes standard with rear-axle steering and ride-height adjustable air suspension. There are options available that give you the feeling of an SUV that can handle the road. One option is electronically controlled anti-roll bars. You can also opt for huge carbon-ceramic rotors. The Lamborghini Urus shares this feature. You may want to invest in the torque-vectoring rear differential.

All in all, the RS Q8 makes speed easy and will give you a fearless attitude.

Fast but Family Oriented

The Q8 goes beyond the label of a supercar with a pretty face. It’s comfortable. It will accommodate children, pets and groceries. Your grown-up friends will also enjoy the big comfort and styling. This Audi can handle anything any other SUV can handle and then some

Virtual Cockpit

Buttons are gone. The future is here and that means touchscreens. The RS Q8 dashboard is futuristic, smooth and flat. You’ll incorporate yourself into your Q8 through the MMI touch response. It has haptic feedback on its screens. As a result, you don’t risk activating anything by accidentally bumping the display glass. You must give it some pressure with your finger. When it responds, you’ll hear a small click sound. The interface is simplified and allows you to control and enjoy your driving experience.

It features dual screens. The large upper screen handles navigation and multiple vehicle settings. The lower smaller screen controls the climate controls.

One of many exciting features is using the digital text or ground-breaking handwriting recognition. The handwriting recognition identifies entire words. It can also recognize overlapping letters. The vehicle must be parked in order to utilize these features.

The screens have detailed graphics. You’ll have the standard speed and rpm numbers. One display graphic shows the speed and rpm as bar diagrams. You’ll also have navigation, media and driver assistance systems. On the bottom of the screen you’ll have the time, outside temperature, and odometer.

It has a view control on the steering wheel to change the virtual cockpit between two views. One view allows you to see the navigation, phone lists, radio and audio. But switch the driving mode to RS 1 or RS 2 and you have a different view. This view shows a performance layout. This focuses on the tachometer and shows performance and torque as percentages.

As Familiar as Your Smartphone

You can communicate and interface with your Audi as you do with your smartphone. In other words, you’ll be able to tap, swipe, pinch and write to interact with climate controls and information. Think of it as a smartphone on wheels.

Some technology offered includes:

  • Apple CarPlay
  • Android Auto integration
  • 4G LTE
  • Wi-Fi hotspot
  • Navigation
  • SiriusXM satellite radio

You won’t need to talk like a robot anymore to your Audi. Use natural language to navigate, make calls and interact as you would with a human. The natural language voice control formulates everyday speech.

Smart Headlights

Yes it’s powerful, yes it’s tecki but safety is a priority with the Q8. The Q8 comes with Matrix LED headlights and because they are individually controlled they can aid with oncoming traffic! A camera on the windshield detects other cars. When this happens, the corresponding LED turns off and a shadow is cast over the car and the other lights stay on with full beams. All in all, this keeps visibility at its peak.

Make it Your Audi

Just like with a smartphone, the icons use long-touch and short touch. This allows you to reposition an icon. It’s your Audi RS Q8 and you’ll be able to customize the control panel. The MMI touch response lets you personalize and reconfigure controls.
