Buick Wildcat Concept Brings New Image for the Brand

Buick Wildcat

Buick has a new Wildcat concept car that may revolutionize the brand. Even though not all concepts become production cars and ever see the highway, they often indicate the direction the brand is moving towards. Buick’s latest Wildcat is no different but provides an interesting peek into the brand’s future.

Wildcat EV concept car

The latest concept car is known as the Wildcat EV. You immediately know that the model is an electric model. Since Buick doesn’t currently have an EV model in its’ lineup, it’s interesting to see that the manufacturer has plans to go that route.

The concept originated as a drawing by a designer in the company. It generated a lot of excitement, which led to further development all the way to the full concept. The plan for Buick is to be all-electric by 2030 and introduce the first EV in 2024.

The shape of the Wildcat EV concept is sporty with a long wheelbase. The model sports a curved hood and roofline with large wheels. A wide stance and sharp angles create a sporty appearance. The badge is located above the bumper with a wraparound look to showcase the clean lines of the model. No specifications have been given for what this model would be able to do out on the highway.

Will there be a Wildcat EV?

Buick hasn’t committed to whether it will develop this model. However, it does provide some insight into where the manufacturer is going in design. You can expect to see some elements, such as the fascias and window treatment on other models including Buick SUVs. Buick has plans to launch two other models later in the year that will use some of the styling of the Wildcat.

Not the first Buick Wildcat

The name of the latest concept car from Buick isn’t the different from past models. Buick used the Wildcat name on three concept cars back in the early 1950s. They were named Wildcat I, Wildcat II, and Wildcat III. The third concept car had some similarities to the newest Wildcat with a wraparound design and a low profile to create an athletic image.

The concept car showcases a distinct departure for Buick from what it currently offers. The current models for the brand are all crossovers and SUVs. While Buick has produced some sporty cars in the past, none are in the lineup today.

Another aspect of the concept car and how it impacts the Buick brand is in the image. Buick has long been known as a high-class brand, but it has been recognized in recent years as a vehicle for older drivers. Its focus has been on reliability, quality, and comfort while not providing as much excitement as other brands. The look of this new Wildcat concept car makes major strides in increasing Buick’s “cool factor.” Whether the model makes it to production, it does show one important fact. Buick wants to stay relevant and is willing to reinvent itself to get there.
