Porsche’s Carbon Fiber Windshield Wipers: Are They Worth the Expense?

Carbon Fiber Windshield Wipers

When looking at reviews, most potential customers will look at features such as engine size, number of seats, and the interior layout and features of a vehicle. But one of the most important features a car needs to have, and that has to be functional, is a set of windshield wipers. If these wipers fail to perform, they render your car useless—no matter how many advanced features it has, even if it’s a Porsche.

Porsche’s New Carbon Fiber Windshield Wipers

So how do Porsche’s customers feel when they are given an option to upgrade their windshield wipers to carbon fiber ones? Will adding such an expensive upgrade increase the functionality of something so simple?

Inside the Porsche Configurator

When Porsche released the Configurator, there were several personalization options that could be added to the interior of the car if you wished. But this month, they have added a new upgrade: carbon fiber windshield wipers. Porsche claims that these wipers will reduce the weight of the car, have better performance, and are more aerodynamic.

Further research shows these new and improved wipers can also fit the 911 models. So they are available for most Porsches, regardless of the model or any upgrades you wish to have. For these superior windshield wipers, it will set you back an eye-watering $1,310, which is a hefty sum to upgrade something functional even at its basic level. But Porsche claims that they offer a 50% reduction in weight when compared to the wipers added to previous models.

If you own a 911 GT3 RS, unfortunately, it would not be possible to add these carbon fibre upgrades to your car due to the vehicle’s unique body structure. But if you own a 911 GT3 RS, I think overall you will be happy with having such an amazing car sans carbon fibre windshield wipers.

Smarter Ways to Spend $1,300

Overall, it is an unnecessary upgrade to a car that is luxurious and powerful enough for anyone. So, in jest, we have researched other ways that you could spend the $1300 that you would need to pay in order to upgrade your wipers. These include adding a “Dreams” paint job to your Porches for $1550, a little more than the wipers, but equally ridiculous and coloured seat belts for $560 for the colour-conscious customer.

More functional upgrades include ventilated seats for $850, a large sunroof for $1610, titanium wheel bolts for $1446, and Sporty side skirts for $1340. Also, it is not just your car that you can customize. You can also get a matching Porsche cup for $60 or a titanium wheel rim clock for nearly $1900.

While it seems your money will not go far when it comes to customizing your Porsche, there are still more functional and also more fun ways of spending your money than wasting $1300 on carbon fibre windshield wipers that will be as functional as the original wipers, because let’s face it, no one will notice that they are 50 percent lighter than their previous counterparts. Nice try, Porsche, nice try!
