The 2025 Porsche Panamera: Record-Breaking on Nürburgring

Porsche is world-renowned for its fast speed and excellent automotive engineering. It is known to produce an array of vehicles, including SUVs for families and record-breaking race cars. Most Porsche enthusiasts favor the latter and will not feel disappointed with the latest release, the Porsche Panamera. Not only is the newest automotive beast from Porsche easy on the eye, but it has also just hit another record on the Nürburgring track.

Lars Kern Sets New Record for Porsche Panamera Turbo S at Nürburgring

One of the company’s most experienced drivers, Lars Kern, took to the iconic track in the Turbo S variation of the Panamera and completed it in 7:24.17, which is a new record for Porsche. The EV Taycan Turbo GT still has the fastest lap on this track, competing it at 7:7.55.

This track time puts the Panamera Turbo S in supercar terrority, as other legendary cars have completed the Nürburgring in similar times. Another Porsche, the 911 GT2 RS, completed the racetrack in 7:24, and the Maserati MC12 came in with a time of 7:25.29. Also, the Mercedes Benz AMG GT63 S held the record for the quickest time for luxury hybrid cars, with a lap time of 7:27.80 in 2020, but Porsche has claimed that the Panamera has now broken this record.

YouTube video

From the video released on the internet, the lap itself doesn’t seem that it is going as fast as it actually is, as there is very little drama, even in the more difficult sections. This testifies to Porsche’s design and production prowess, as the Nürburgring track challenges even the best automotive engineering. It hits a top speed of 173 mph going into the Schwedenkreuz, a left-handed turn that is approximately two miles from the starting point of the track. Even after the Karussell turn, there is nothing but quick turns after quick turns that seemed effortless.

Porsche Celebrates a Major Achievement

Porsche is obviously very proud of this achievement and goes as far as explaining that the new Panamera is up to 6 seconds faster than previous comparable models. While they keep many details of this car under wraps, the press photo from the Nürburgring track confirms it as the newest Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.

They used a stock Porsche Panamera, not yet on the market, with several adjustments including a roll cage and a racing seat. To reach such speeds, they equipped it with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and the optional Carbon Aerokit body kit, which helps keep the front axle and overall handling in check.

Engine and Powertrain Expectations

While Porsche fans will have to wait a little bit longer to hear the details of the car’s engine and other features, it is known that its powertrain can produce over 700 horsepower. Porsche has released another breadcrumb, and the V8 engine is making a comeback. We expect the Panamera Turbo S to have a more powerful powertrain than previous models and the new Turbo E-Hybrid. This new hybrid produces up to 670 horsepower and 685 pound-feet of torque.

The Porsche Active Ride Chassis

Also, the new Porsche Active Ride chassis will make an appearance and has no doubt helped this car create an incredible record that many automotive companies would love to achieve. However, given that the Panamera has not broken the record yet and Porsche’s fondness for the Nurburgring track, this will not be the last time we see this vehicle try out this track.
