Car Safety Features That Keep You Protected During An Emergency

Evolving technology has introduced us to the next level of car safety. Today, drivers all around the world experience an improved form of driving, one that is not only safer, but is commonly becoming more attainable with every make and model manufactured.

The appeal of having car safety features is undeniable, but it is important to understand the value of these groundbreaking technologies and know how to operate them properly. In order to avoid accidents or emergency road hazards, take the time to learn about these new safety features and why most drivers would agree they are far worth the cost.

Adaptive cruise control

Adaptive cruise control (ACC) is available on the majority of cars on the automotive market. Even state-of-the-art motorcycles are starting to include this car safety feature.  Its purpose is to maintain a safe and steady distance from the vehicle in front of you, automatically detecting whether traffic is accelerating or slowing down. Perhaps the best use of the ACC system is when drivers frequent highways to commute to work or take long road trips. In these cases, adaptive cruise control can help alleviate the stress of driving.

Brake assistance

The Brake assist feature was designed to help drivers in panic-stop situations. The ingenuity behind brake assistance comes from its ability to detect a short stop or impeding accident. When drivers apply extreme force on the brake pedal, this initiates brake assistance to help stop the vehicle as fast as possible.

The brake assist feature is useful for all types of vehicles and helps combat against negligent driving. With 500,000 truck related accidents occurring each year, even heavy-duty trucks are starting to include this innovative technology. When companies invest in trucks with brake assistance technology, they are helping to reduce the potential severity of impact if an accident were to occur.

Blind-spot warning

No matter how well a vehicle is engineered, the potential for blind spots is always evident. The blind-spot warning system has become a popular feature now found in new cars. This system uses radar and camera technology to prevent your vehicle from entering another lane when a car is present. Blind-spots pose a huge threat to passenger safety, which is why a system developed exclusively for this risk is helping to decrease accidents on the road.

Forward-collision warning

A vehicle with forward-collision warning will monitor your vehicles’ speed, the speed of the vehicle in front of you, and the amount of distance between you and that vehicle. This system  utilizes a combination of cameras, radar, and lasers to scan the road ahead.

The FCW system effectively warns drivers with audible sounds, touch, or visual cues to indicate an accident may occur or speeds have quickly reduced. Essentially, forward-collision is a second pair of eyes on the road, thereby giving drivers the added protection while driving in congested areas.

Lane departure warning / lane keep

These car safety features have one intended purpose: to keep you in your lane. The lane departure warning alerts drivers with when the vehicle is drifting from its intended lane. The lane keep feature will safely guide your vehicle to the center of its lane if your vehicle is swaying back and forth.

Both these features work interchangeably to create safe driving practices.

Rear-view camera

This safety feature has been around for some time, but it’s becoming more advanced each year. Since 2018, all new cars must come equipped with a rear-view camera. This wide-angle lens allows drivers to see up to 180-degree views behind their vehicle.

Adaptive headlights

Adaptive headlights provide better visibility and greater illumination to project varying road conditions. They curve and respond rapidly to changing conditions to provide a safer ride for drivers. Once you experience the engineering behind these innovative bulbs, it will be hard to imagine what life was like before.

Having quality headlights is the quintessential core for safe driving, specifically at night. With the state-of-the-art technologies in headlight engineering, headlamps are on a fast track to keep improving, so it is important to choose quality grade headlamps for your car.

Add these car safety features to your must-have list

The next time you go to purchase or lease a new car, make sure these useful safety features are included or come as optional upgrades. It may cost you a little more to have all these features in your new ride, but the safety it provides is well worth the money. As safety ratings continue to improve, it’s evident these car safety features are changing the game on driver safety.
