What’s Next For Car Safety Technology?

Newer vehicles are the paragon of car safety technology. Beveled behind the charming appeal of luxe interiors and state-the-art infotainment systems comes a structure so complex and cunning that even car purists can’t backpedal enough to the early simplicity of car manufacturing.

Today, we find ourselves in amazement over car safety, desperately craving more of the good stuff we’ve been seeing, such as emergency automatic braking and adaptive cruise control. In a way, we’ve already become completely accustomed to the visual and audio alerts that remind us to be safe drivers. With that said, what’s next for car safety tech?

Discover the features that will push the limitations on car safety technology in the future

Exciting advancements are constantly being made in new car tech. At times, it can seem like every manufacturer is trying to get the upper hand on safety innovation. Fortunately, new models have laid the groundwork for what to expect in car safety technology. Equally important, the advancements are getting more detail-oriented to daily driving concerns. We’re more than ready for the next wave of stellar technologies.

For our readers, here are some of our favorite upcoming car safety technologies to look forward to:

Prevent “dooring” accidents with Safe Exit Assist

The riff between drivers and cyclists doesn’t necessarily end when a car is parked. Parallel parking spots can sometimes lead to an unwanted encounter with a cyclist. Unfortunately, “dooring” is a common occurrence between drivers and pedestrians, scooter enthusiasts, and bicycle riders. If a driver opens his/her door directly in the path of a speedy cyclist, you will find yourself in a dooring accident. For this reason, it’s important to integrate a technology that takes into account human behavior.

Thanks to ever-evolving car safety technologies, drivers can look forward to Safe Exit Assist features in newer models. Also, some manufacturers have already caught on to the trend, using sensors to alert the driver and prevent the door from being opened. For example, the 2022 Lexus NX is one of the few models to include this revolutionary car safety technology. And we’re sure there are more manufacturers to follow suit, both in the luxury and mass market range.

Farewell to hot car accidents

Hot car deaths have been a leading topic in the automotive industry. Once summer hits, it makes it harder to avoid the severity on such tragedies. The fact of the matter is they are 100% avoidable. And thanks to progressive organizations like KidsandCars.org, we’re seeing more headlines advocating for this important cause versus harrowing news reports.

The positive outcome of raising awareness is the pressure for more car safety tech that remedies this issue. Some manufacturers have already begun enlisting technologies that detect movement in a locked car. However, Genesis is the first manufacturer to really hit the mark in preventing hot car deaths. Using a radar, motion-active system, The Hyundai Motor Group found a way to trace children or pets left in the car. Thereby, notifying drivers and surrounding pedestrians with visual and audio warnings.

Smart headlights after dawn

Earlier this year we faced the tough conclusion that adaptive driving beams were still considered illegal in the U.S. And yet we find ourselves still waiting for regulators to accept the value and use of this ultramodern lighting system.

How does it work? Basically, these smart headlights are able to project high illumination on a dark roadway while still being able to shield oncoming traffic. Some models use shutter-like shades to block the light. Others utilize varying LEDs that can detect approaching vehicles.

The clamor surrounding this headlight system just make us that much more eager for its arrival in the U.S. And if all rumors speak true, the NHTSA will approve it hopefully sooner rather than later.

Are you excited for the next car safety technology?

The future of car safety technology has us at the edge of our seats. Although we’re not adept fortune-tellers, these car safety technologies have been in the works for some time. Many companies have already invested their time and money in similar variations. With time on our side, we hope these innovative car safety technology continue to make a bold and lasting appearance in 2022-2025 new releases.
