Which Safety Tech Is Worth Buying?

Remember the days when a typical upgrade consisted of leather seats? Or perhaps better music variation with SiriusXM Radio? Although those features were surely valued in their heyday, nothing quite compares to the option variety that exists today. Modern drivers have a plethora of trim options to choose from along with high-tech upgrades to add to their purchase. From high performance engines, interior luxuries, and impressive safety tech, the world is essentially your oyster when it comes to car buying. That said, until recently it’s been pretty difficult to know which safety tech is worth the cost of admission.

Luckily, we can thank auto insurance giant, Progressive, for performing a study that accurately compares the types of safety tech. The results offered key takeaways as to which safety technologies are valuable to your driving experience.

The top safety tech to buy

Are some safety features better than others? Will the likelihood of a crash reduce? These are the questions that car shoppers want to know in 2022. In trend with the times, many automakers have started to incorporate advanced safety tech as standard features. Even so, there are still prominent safety tech options that don’t get included with your vehicle purchase. With Progressive’s report, we now have a better idea of what safety tech is worth the upgrade.

Here are the top three safety tech available:

Blind-Spot Warning (BSW)

It’s obvious by now that blind-spot detection has become the most prized safety tech on the market. Lane change crashes are already down 14% and that number is expected to increase as more drivers incorporate this groundbreaking technology. For those who don’t know, Blind-Spot Warning uses a combination of cameras, radar, and sensors to detect if another vehicle or person is next to or behind your vehicle. All said and done, BSW has your back, and the cost does not even begin to compare to the value it adds to your lifestyle.

Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA)

If you’ve ever been in a busy parking lot, you’ll understand the merit of this safety tech feature. Rear Cross-Traffic Alert promptly lets the driver know if a vehicle or pedestrian is nearby while in reverse. Similar to Blind-Spot Warning, this technology serves as a second set of eyes for the circumstances you can’t predict or see while behind the wheel. Automakers, like Toyota and Kia, offer Rear-Cross Traffic Alert as part of an optional add-on package. Therefore, you’ll have to pay a little more to get this awesome feature, but it tends to work in every drivers favor.

Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)

Automatic Emergency Braking has changed the game in crash avoidance. This innovative technology actively monitors the distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you to assist in collision prevention. As a matter of fact, a vehicle with this feature will begin to slow its speed and initiate braking before the driver even knows to do so. On top of that, its utility has proven to reduce the occurrence of injuries and deaths.
