2022 Honda Odyssey Comprehensive Review

2022 Honda Odyssey Review

The 2022 Honda Odyssey combines comfort and performance, and it is one of the more popular and highly rated minivans available. This minivan is offered in five different trim levels — LX, EX, EX-L Touring and Elite.

Here is what we know about the 2022 Honda Odyssey

The Odyssey by Honda features quality performance and advanced safety features. It also has an ample amount of seating room and storage capacity. However, there are some notable drawbacks to consider as well. The 2022 Honda Odyssey does not have many new upgrades that the ‘21 Odyssey does not include.

Pricing

The 2022 Odyssey starts at $33,265. The most expensive Elite edition is priced around $49,000. This is a highly competitive price when compared with similar models from other manufacturers. Here’s how the Honda Odyssey starting price compares to competitor models:

  • Honda Odyssey – $33,265
  • Chrysler Pacifica – $36,990
  • Kia Sedona – $31,575
  • Toyota Sienna – $35,635
  • Kia Carnival – $33,275

When considering the overall performance, comfort and safety of the 2022 model, it is a great value for the price relative to competitor minivans.

Advantages

The advantages of the new Honda Odyssey are similar to the 2021 Odyssey as there were not many changes. The most notable benefits include:

  • Advanced tech and safety features
  • A high-performance engine
  • Removable second-row of seats
  • Maximum storage capacity

The 2022 Honda Odyssey offers excellent performance for a minivan, ideal comfort and practical storage features and capacity. This makes it a perfect vehicle for families of four or more that want a safe, reliable and comfortable vehicle to get around in.

Drawbacks of the Honda Odyssey

The 2022 Honda Odyssey does not have many flaws, but there are some reported weak points to be mindful of before purchasing. The drawbacks of the Honda Odyssey include:

  • Poor fuel economy
  • Difficult to remove second row of seats
  • Smartphone integration not included (base trim)
  • Sensitive collision warning

According to the EP, the 2022 Honda Odyssey averages 19 miles per gallon (city) and 28 miles per gallon (highway). It can also be difficult to remove the second-row seats, which is necessary to access the full storage capacity the Odyssey offers.

New features

There are not many notable changes with the 2022 model. Honda now offers a new Radiant Red Metallic II color option for the Honda Odyssey. The HondaVac, an upgraded vacuum cleaner option with the 2021 Honda Odyssey, has been discontinued. This is in addition to the facelift overhaul the 2021 Honda Odyssey received.

Performance

This popular family van features a V6 engine that accelerates well when necessary. It has a 0 to 60 mph time of 7.6 seconds, which is impressive for a spacious minivan. It also drives well with reliable steering and brakes. Although not the sports car that a young single adult may desire, it performs very well for a larger family vehicle, allowing you to reliably merge onto highways, speed up to change lanes, etc.

Comfort

It is hard to say the Odyssey is perfect for long vacation trips given its less than ideal fuel efficiency, but it is incredibly comfortable. The first two rows of seats offer plenty of space. It also has great noise reduction and allows for a quiet ride. It also features a rear infotainment speaker that allows the front seat adults to talk to kids in the third row without shouting.

Infotainment

The 2022 Odyssey has an easy-to-use infotainment system. You can easily customize it the way that you want it. It also has advanced voice commands and is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There are some complaints about the sluggish nature of the adaptive cruise control, driver aids and other technology features the Odyssey offers, although the 2022 model should be more tech-friendly than previous models.

Fuel efficiency in the Honda Odyssey

As discussed, the Odyssey gets 19 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. While this is not mediocre for minivan standards, it does trail behind the fuel-efficient capabilities of various competitors to the Odyssey.

Safety

The 2022 model received a perfect 5 out of 5 stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for overall safety. It features more than a dozen safety features, including forward-collision warning, lane-keep assist and traffic sign recognition.

Headlights

The 2022 Honda Odyssey has stylish LED headlights and Honda offers unique auto high-beam headlights. Quality headlights (and taillights) are crucial for optimal safety while driving. The Honda Odyssey headlights do not disappoint, and they should remain in ideal condition for a long time with quality care.

2022 Honda Odyssey vs. competitor models

The most notable competitors to the Honda Odyssey are the Chrysler Pacifica and the Toyota Sienna. While both feature a similar build and similar pricing options, we believe the Honda Odyssey to be the best overall value.

2021 Chrysler Pacifica minivan

The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica is perhaps the most comparable model. Some prefer the Pacifa over the Honda Odyssey because of the option for all-wheel drive and the additional features that are included. Also, the second-row seats with the Pacifica can be folded into the floor, whereas the seats with the Odyssey have to be removed. The Odyssey, however, arguably performs better than the Pacifica and has greater cargo volume.

2021 Toyota Sienna minivan

The debate between the Toyota Sienna and the Honda Odyssey is ongoing, and you can get car enthusiasts firmly on both sides of the debate. Perhaps the most notable benefit the Toyota Sienna offers that the Odyssey does not is higher horsepower. However, the Odyssey is more responsive than the Sienna. The safety, comfort and technology features are very similar with both models.

Our recommendation

When comparing the 2022 Odyssey with other minivans, the Odyssey is a great choice. It has exceptional performance relative to the competition and comfort that is arguably better than the rest of the competitions. While the technology could use some improvements and removing the second row of seats is more complex than many would like, the 2022 Honda Odyssey is a reliable and comfortable minivan that is fairly priced.
