2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug-in Hybrid Q4
After launching its first ever crossover in 2022, Alfa Romeo is back at it, releasing a sneak peak of its 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale due to be released by the end of 2023. The Plug-in Hybrid has now reached 20,000 sales in Europe and Alfa Romeo’s CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato is predicting 200,000 sales by 2027, according to Italpassion (Alexandre, 2022). With its 280-hp plug-in-hybrid powertrain, the Tonale finally throws a bit of Italian flare into the mundane subcompact crossover market.
What we know
Although we still don’t know much besides a few details and pictures released by Alfa Romeo earlier this year. We do know the Tonale is set to hit U.S stores for the first time this year. With anticipation, we guarantee this will add a little excitement to the American market and a little truth to Imparato’s predictions.
Engine and Plug in Hybrid Battery
This “race-inspired” plug-in hybrid comes with a turbo 1.3-liter four-cylinder and features a rear axle electric motor generating a combined 280 horsepower. Accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds, the Tonale produces only 26-33 g/km of CO2 emissions in the combined WLTP cycle.
The six speed automatic crossover also carries a 15.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This feature allows for up to 30 miles of electric-only driving range. However, its North American version is rumored to have an even more powerful hybrid powertrain than its European counterpart. We suspect American fans of the brand are already drooling at the prospect.
Premium Environment And Increased Comfort
The Tonale brings a modern touch to this classic Italian brand featuring a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster dashboard, a three-spoke steering wheel, and a pair of the always important paddle shifters. Its interior merges the old with the new with a mix of aluminum trim, leather, and microsuede. Ultimately giving you that modern comfort with a vintage feel. In our opinion, the styling of the 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale is timeless. The cabin delivers in personality without jeopardizing quality.
The Tonale is equipped with the latest connectivity and design innovations. Namely thanks to its state-of-the-art security. Through its Alfa Connect Services, which now has four new functionalities, controlling your vehicle is easier and more intuitive than ever. Additionally, the Tonale comes with an Amazon Alexa Voice Service, exclusive Amazon services, and the first car ever with an NFT Blockchain certification.
By staying true to their style and brand, Alfa Romeo has hit the mark with the 2024 Tonale. This model is exactly what a luxury crossover should offer. Or at least, the perfect answer to a luxury yet practical sport utility model. It will be interesting to see how the U.S market reacts to this Italian crossover. If the CEO’s predictions prove correct, the Tonale will be a big win for Alfa Romeo.
What do you think of the 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale? Would you purchase this Italian SUV in the U.S.?
