2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug-in Hybrid Q4

After launching its first ever crossover in 2022, Alfa Romeo is back at it, releasing a sneak peak of its 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale due to be released by the end of 2023. The Plug-in Hybrid has now reached 20,000 sales in Europe and Alfa Romeo’s CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato is predicting 200,000 sales by 2027, according to Italpassion (Alexandre, 2022). With its 280-hp plug-in-hybrid powertrain, the Tonale finally throws a bit of Italian flare into the mundane subcompact crossover market.

What we know

Although we still don’t know much besides a few details and pictures released by Alfa Romeo earlier this year. We do know the Tonale is set to hit U.S stores for the first time this year. With anticipation, we guarantee this will add a little excitement to the American market and a little truth to Imparato’s predictions.

Engine and Plug in Hybrid Battery 

This “race-inspired” plug-in hybrid comes with a turbo 1.3-liter four-cylinder and features a rear axle electric motor generating a combined 280 horsepower. Accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds, the Tonale produces only 26-33 g/km of CO2 emissions in the combined WLTP cycle.

The six speed automatic crossover also carries a 15.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This feature allows for up to 30 miles of electric-only driving range. However, its North American version is rumored to have an even more powerful hybrid powertrain than its European counterpart. We suspect American fans of the brand are already drooling at the prospect.
