2025 Rivian R1T vs. 2025 Tesla Cybertruck

Electric trucks are the hottest thing when it comes to the electric vehicle market, as they have long driving distances, large spaces, and more power for the customers, resulting in higher profits for the companies. So, what happens when we compare two of the most talked about and popular EVs against each other, the Rivian R1T and the Tesla Cybertruck?

Design and Purpose

First of all, both SUVs are designed from the ground up with no previous model to start as a base. They are battery-powered pickups, and that’s basically where the similarities end. Rivian R1T is being marketed as a luxury pickup truck that is excellent for adventure and off-roading. It is the pickup you want if you prefer glamping to camping.  The Tesla Cybertruck is its raw counterpart with a heavy emphasis on utility, raw power, and an eye-catching military style steel exterior.

Price Comparison:

Another contrast between these two vehicles is their price. For the 2025 Rivian electric truck, the base model, which contains a dual motor, All Wheel Drive, and up to 533 horsepower, has a starting price of $69,900. There are two upgrades, which include a larger driving range and higher power, with a price tag of $76,900 and $99,900, respectively.

The Tesla Cybertruck’s price has already increased since its debut in 2023. There are two versions with the dual-motor, all-wheel drives have a price tag of approximately $80,000, and the tri-motor version increases to $100,000. Tesla has promised a single motor version with a lower price tag, but that has not materialized on the market just yet. Rivian packs more features into its price, whereas Tesla positions the Cybertruck as a luxury vehicle.

Performance

Next up is the pickup’s performance, and wow, the vehicles are capable of numbers that would be utterly impossible for pickups to reach. The standard Rivian R1T can produce up to 533 horsepower and can complete 06-mph in 4.5 seconds. The upgraded versions can increase the horsepower up to 850 and reduce the time it takes to reach 60mph to 2.9 seconds.  Rivian has also teased a quad-motor setup that will potentially produce over 1,000 horsepower.

The Cybertruck’s base model can reach 60mph in under 4 seconds, while its tri-motor version takes between 2.6 and 2.9 seconds. While the trucks are similar, Rivian offers customers a better choice with several different models and performance to choose from.

Driving Range

With every EV, the driving range is critical, and due to electric trucks being so heavy, it is even more important. The Rivian R1T Max Pack can have up to 420 miles, which is one of the best driving ranges on the market. The lower spec models also have up to 300 miles, which is still excellent. Both specifications of the Tesla Cybertruck have a driving range between 320 and 325 miles. Tesla has long talked about the 500-mile Cybertruck, but so far, it has not come to fruition.

While these numbers sound excellent, in real-life driving, they are a lot different. A test was conducted in which both trucks were driven on a highway in cold conditions and at high speeds. During this, the Rivian had a driving range of 266 miles while the Cybertruck came in at 252. While the Rivian still trumps the Cybertruck, the Cybertruck’s advantage is the Tesla charging network, which is the most reliable and extensive network in the US.

Which Truck Should You Choose?

Overall, both trucks are an excellent purchase regardless of which one you choose. If you are looking for a luxury truck that has excellent driving range and off-roading capabilities, then the Rivian R1T is the one for you. Choose the Cybertruck for a rugged ride paired with an excellent charging network. Either way, it is refreshing to see such impressive and practical autonomous engineering for customers to choose from.
