Baja Blaster: The 2024 Can-Am Maverick R’s Off-Road Fury
Topping 80 mph on a torn-up trail through a forest strikes many as horrifying! Just one minor miscalculation could cause an epic off-road fail. The 2024 Can-Am Maverick R’s off-road fury provides the grunt to conquer pro-grade wilderness.
The 2024 Can-Am Maverick R’s Off-Road Fury
This dune buggy is a class ruler of a very aggressive segment. A few traits that set it apart from average buggies are its extra-tall front knuckles and spider-leg upper control arms. This adventurous vehicle’s vertical motions are positively affected by its upper and lower ball joints. The design team had a huge emphasis on keeping tires planted on the ground.

Stability in Every Detail: Designing the Maverick to Combat Rollovers
Fox Live Valve adaptive dampers are another additive that provides top-caliber compression adjustment. The Maverick R boasts 25 inches of travel in the front and 26 in the rear. The dampers render air time and conquering bumps an easy task. If you fully compress the front end, the upper control arms are visible.
Just a few years ago, these wonderful toys were prone to many more rollovers. This excursion-prone beauty is nearly as wide as a Ford Ranger Raptor! During lateral loading, the dampers firm up to keep things flat. The dune buggy segment has undergone amazing changes in the past decade.
Shattering Expectations: The Maverick’s Incredible Capabilities
The Maverick R’s admirable force is a turbocharged 1.0-liter inline-3. This potent little powertrain doles out 21.0 psi of boost! Its 240 horsepower renders it one of the most power-dense engines out there. Shifting is done with a seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle.

The automatic transmission performs amazingly well, and paddle shifters add to the thrills. The Maverick R’s 4.2-second 0-60 mph time has the attention of many! Its Sport + mode adds a dazzling array of technology. Its Advanced Response Technology sees the turbo fiercely roaring like an airplane.
Sandy Superiority: Simply Unstoppable Trail Performance
The moment you hit the trail, the Maverick’s acceleration is stupendous! With a constantly-locked rear differential, massive powerslides are no problem. The otherworldly Trail Active mode provides lightning-fast front axle control.
This is the “bearer of all things torque” for the front wheels. When turning in the wild gets tough, this well-equips the front wheels to powerfully propel you through. Even though the Maverick R gets the trail hounds’ Blue ribbon for speed, it also handles low gearing well. 17 inches of ground clearance allow for “furious water fording” to extremes.
150 Miles of Adrenaline: The Maverick’s Ultimate Test Run
Can-Am took five years to develop this brand-new Maverick R. The transmission, front diff, suspension, chassis, and engine are all brand-new. The Race-desert.com crew’s team thought that the Nevada Desert would be a formidable proving ground. They set out to put 150 miles on the car en route from Hawthorne to Vegas.
They first address the suspension, which many enthusiasts made fun of at first! After a few miles, they realized that these body lines were quite well thought-out. Cobras, fighter jets, and many other sleek items provided design inspiration. All of the suspension elements are double-sheered except for the middle rear radius rod.

Expert Eyes on the Maverick: First Impressions of the Dune Buggy
When the most experienced team member first saw the Maverick, he expected it to produce a good deal of body roll. Even when they threw it into corners completely off-camber, it never faltered. The live valve did a very good job of adjusting during corners. The few times they experienced a bottom-out, the skid plates didn’t touch the ground.
They ran the majority of the 150 miles in Sport mode. The ideal compression it provided gave the driver more confidence to tackle demanding desert terrain. They switched the mode to Comfort for washboard and more jutted terrain. This fared very well at soaking things up while not graduating through its travel span too fast.
Advanced Off-Road Engineering: The Maverick’s Technological Edge
A large 10.25” display is included in the X model. The brand-new BRP GO! App is available on both Android and Apple phones. Seeing the knuckle approach upfront the hood when the suspension cycles can take a bit of getting used to! At first, it’s easy to assume that a dangerous rock is making its way in.
The brakes did their job well and provided lots of stopping power for conquering the unpredictable. One important thing the team noted was that you can put the transmission in manual mode by holding down both paddle shifters for a brief instant. Unfortunately, this team did have difficulty getting the BRP! GO! App to pair correctly and display.

Concluding Remarks: Maverick’s Strengths and Irresistible Draw
Toys for those with the resources have gotten better and better each year! Oliver Stone’s original “Wall Street” movie depicted just how fun it is to pound sand with dune buggies on Long Island.
