First EV “Gas Station” Opens Shop in Southern California

With the growing popularity of electric vehicles, it was only a matter of time before someone developed an EV “gas station” equivalent to the traditional fuel pumps we see on busy street corners. Enter Rove, a Southern California-based company that has built the first of its kind, opening in Santa Ana, CA on October 15th.

The EV service station offers everything you need for a comfortable break while your car powers up: 40 fast chargers compatible with all EV brands, complimentary WiFi in the lounge, spotless restrooms, and even a car wash. Some might say it is the perfect place to recharge, even if you aren’t driving an EV.

EV About Rove

As early EV enthusiasts, Rove’s founders quickly realized that many charging stations—whether at highway gas stations or empty parking lots—fell short, often facing long lines and insufficient amenities. They believed there had to be a better way to enjoy electric mobility without sacrificing convenience.

Thus, the idea for Rove was born. It lead to the creation of the first-ever EV “gas station” that prioritizes safety, cleanliness, and well-lit spaces, allowing patrons to stop and charge at any time of day.

Premium convenience thanks to Recharge by Gelson’s

While traditional gas stations offer all the fixings of quick snacks, candies, and last-minute necessities, Rove takes convenience a step further. The high-end convenience store, called Recharge by Gelson’s, brings a fresh take to the experience, with healthier snack options for visitors.

Because charging an electric vehicle can take upwards of an hour or more depending on the charging speed and your car’s electric battery, it was important for Rove’s founders to create a space that provides premium options.

Whether you’re grabbing a gourmet snack, catching up on work, or simply relaxing, the amenities offer more than just a quick stop—they turn your charging break into a refreshing pause in your day.

Santa Ana is just the beginning

The concept behind Rove sparks a new trend in how the future of electric mobility might look. By reimagining what an EV “gas station” can be, Rove is setting the standard for convenience, safety, and customer experience in the electric vehicle industry.

With California at the forefront of EV ownership and environmental policies, it’s the perfect place to get started with this type of venture. While the enthusiasm for electric vehicles remains palpable everywhere, the infrastructure and convenience must keep pace to truly support this transition.

Despite all the spending and excitement about EV growth and EV infrastructure, there’s much more we need to do,” said Rove CEO Bill Reid.

Rove’s CEO recognizes this launch is just the beginning. As Rove continues to innovate and open more locations, it will play a vital role in shaping a future where charging stations are not just functional, but also enhance the driving experience.

Expansion of EV “gas station” on the horizon

Rove’s official launch in Santa Ana is shaping up to be a major success, and the company is already setting their sights on future growth. The plans to expand are underway with the the next two locations planned for Costa Mesa and Torrance.
