How to Sell Your Vehicle Online

Gone are the days when you just post an ad in the newspaper to sell your vehicle or post on Craigslist to find a buyer. Many options are available to find a buyer for your vehicle online, and you should take advantage. Here are some ways you can sell your vehicle online.

Facebook Marketplace

Without a doubt, Facebook is one of the largest sites on the internet. It’s not surprising that it has a marketplace or that vehicles can be listed. This site is also one of the easiest to utilize. Just add photos and information about your vehicle and it’s ready to be posted. Another bonus with Facebook is you can post your car for sale to any swap shop or sales groups you belong to, and the site will ask if you want to cross-post to other groups and the Facebook Marketplace. You end up getting a lot more views while only needing to create one ad.

CarGurus.com

This website is one of the best places to list your vehicle for sale. You create your listing and add photos. Include any specs and descriptions. You can also include the vehicle identification number (VIN), which allows any interested buyers to get a vehicle history report. The website verifies all buyers who put in offers, so you know it is legitimate. CarGurus.com also acts as the middleman for the sale process, so your bank information is never given out. The listing fee is reasonable at $4.95 per vehicle.

Autotrader

Back in its early days, Autotrader was a print magazine dedicated to car sales. Today, it has moved to online sales with its website and a stellar reputation, bringing in more serious buyers. One of the best features is the multiple options for sellers. They can purchase a $25 ad for one month. For a higher price, they can place a listing for as long as it takes to sell the vehicle. If you request VIP Service, the site will take care of all the work to sell the car. They even work with dealerships that are interested in used vehicles.

eBay

One of the earliest online sites to buy and sell vehicles with the auction site eBay Motors. You have two options with this site. First, you can list your vehicle and have interested buyers bid on it. There is no cost to do this, but eBay Motors takes a percentage based on the selling price. To keep from selling your vehicle too low, you can use a Buy It Now button, which doubles as a reserve price. The second option is to set a price. Buyers can still use the Make Offer button if they want to negotiate, but you get to decide if the offer is acceptable. One thing that makes eBay safe is that the entire transaction is completed through the site. You don’t need to give out your bank information.

If you like the convenience of selling your vehicle online, you’ll find plenty of options available. Some are free while others come with a cost. But all of them allow you to avoid the hassle of scheduling a time when some stranger can come to your home to see the vehicle in person. Check out one of these sites when you’re ready to sell your ride.

    1. I guess Craigslist is no longer a reliable source. I bought a car before on Facebook Marketplace but you definitely should know something about cars beforehand so that you do not buy a lemon.
