Mercedes-Benz Will Cut EV Pricing Ahead for 2026

Mercedes-Benz is one of the most prominent German automobile brands, known throughout the world for luxury and reliable engineering.  There are many makes and models for this brand that are best sellers and are critically acclaimed worldwide. Unfortunately, the EV line that they have produced was not one of them. The EQS line was first introduced to customers four years ago in 2021, and despite fans’ buzz around Mercedes-Benz’s take on an electric vehicle, it has had lukewarm sales. Now, the latest news: Mercedes-Benz plans to cut EV pricing in the new year.

The Bold Move to Go Electric

When Mercedes-Benz released this line, they made a dramatic business move by electrifying all its vehicles, which in hindsight was not a little premature, and the brand may now have to reverse such a bold move.

Price Cuts for 2026: What You Need to Know

So what are Mercedes doing to counteract a less-than-stellar foray into the electric vehicle world? Firstly, they are going to reduce their price. It was initially leaked on TikTok, but then subsequently confirmed by the company that any car with an EQ badge will have its retail price reduced for next year, 2026. For instance, the 2026 Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan has a retail price of $66,100, which is nearly a $10,000 reduction from the previous year. The EQS sedan version has a less dramatic decrease of $4,150, so its price will still be in the six-figure range.

Big Savings for SUVs

But it’s the SUVs where the big savings will be made. The 2026 EQE SUV will see a significant price drop of over $12,000, bringing the price down to $66,100. The king of the Mercedes-Benz SUVs, the MSRP is now available for $91,100, which is a $15,300 drop from last year. The compact EQB SUV, which is the entry-level SUV, is the only vehicle to keep its original price of $53,050.

A Strategic Move to Compete

This price drop is a very clever business move for the German company, as now their EV line has just become competitive. Customers can enjoy the engineering and design of a vehicle, but if the price is consistently too high, they are not going to buy the cars. But by dropping the price of the EQS SUV, it is now a direct competitor to the critically acclaimed BMW iX as it features a similar driving range, more luxury features as standard, including ventilated seats, and slightly less power. Also, the EQE sedan now costs less than another BMW competitor, the i5 sedan. It has a larger driving range and more torque than the i5, which may sway some customers, especially if they are new to EVs and have driving range anxiety.

Potential Impact on Sales and the Market

From this business strategy, Mercedes-Benz could see a rise in sales and popularity of their EV range, making it one of the most desirable ranges in the world, and what makes it even better is that the second-hand market value will also drop, making them even more affordable.

Looking Ahead: Mercedes-Benz to Cut EV Pricing

Overall, the Mercedes-Benz EV fails to impress customers, who describe its styling as ‘bulbous’ or ‘clunky.’ However, this price drop could be the energy this range needs to catch the attention of potential customers.  as the engineering behind these cars is impeccable. 2026 is going to be a big year for Mercedes-Benz and its electric vehicles. Watch this space.
