Quick Review of the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro

When a particular make or model hits the 10 year mark, this usually means it’s time for a change. The Tundra has been Toyota’s go-to full-size truck since 2007, but has since fallen behind industry top-sellers like the RAM 1500 and Ford F-150. After experiencing a major upgrade in 2014, this sought-after truck soon began loosing momentum for its disappointing mechanics. It’s found itself pitted at the bottom of the best of best truck list. Almost sad enough to make consumers question: Is this the end for the Toyota Tundra? In this post, we’ll dive into what to expect from the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. A new generation of Tundra, one that is hopefully leaving behind its lack-luster appeal for good.

What’s new for the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro?

The redesigned 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro is showing consumers that this full-size truck has not lost its value quite yet. While not much has been revealed about the 2022 model, it’s likely to come at a higher price than its 2021 predecessor. Thus, starting above an MSRP of $34, 025. Here’s what we do know or suspect will transform in the new and improved Tundra.

Front-end lighting elements

Recently, we’ve seen how front-end lighting can totally transform the look of a car. It can take an otherwise outdated model and bring it back to life with a completely innovative approach. Perhaps one of the coolest parts of the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro is its incorporation of integrated running lights into the grille. With an approximately 80 inch front-end width, these lights become legally necessary. At the same time, we can’t deny they add a modern approach to typical Tundra of the past.

More energy-conscious powertrain

The next generation Tundra is likely going to leave behind its dated V-8 powertrain for something more responsive. In the automotive world, rumors have begun spinning about a twin-turbocharged V-6 engine with up to 400 horsepower. However, we can’t confirm much until Toyota reveals specifics.

In addition, the Tundra has been known for having poor suspension. That too will likely improve by shifting from its leaf-spring setup to something more refined. Not to mention, its efficiency lags behind top contenders, so we suspect some improvements will be made regarding its 13 city/17 highway mileage.

More towing capability

It’s a known fact that the Tundra falls behind rivals in towing and hauling capability. Whereas the Tundra can safely tow up to 10,100 pounds, the Ford F-150 can tow up to 14,000. With the 2022 Toyota Tundra, we can only hope its current towing and hauling capabilities become a thing of the past.

Say goodbye to the Tundra you once knew, the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro is here

Naturally, it would be hard for the next generation Tundra to catch up to industry leaders. Will these improvements change consumer opinion? It’s hard to say. But it’s pretty evident that this edition will be a major improvement from the past years, especially in the departments where truck enthusiasts value most. Whether this is Toyota’s valiant attempt to redeem an otherwise written-off model or simply a chance to make a comeback among consumers, we’ll have to wait and see. All we know, is the 2022 model is finally up-to-date with consumer taste.
