Reviewing What We Know About The 2022 Kia EV6

Kia released photos of its 2022 Kia EV6 recently, and they have people discussing its unique and innovative design. There are still a lot of questions still to be answered, but the 2022 Kia EV6 seems like it could be a huge player in the electric vehicle market once it comes available. This model is the first of 11 electric vehicle models that Kia has promised to release within the next five years.

The 2022 Kia EV6 features a bold new design

The 2022 Kia EV6 has an eye-catching appearance. This electric compact SUV features a sporty design that is intended to optimize aerodynamic performance. It also features a relatively classic and traditional interior design, although the specific features have not yet been released.

The Kia EV6 “Digital Tiger Face”

Kia describes the EV6’s unique appearance as its “Digital Tiger Face.” It features attractive low-mounted headlights, a floating roofline and sleek fenders, along with wide tail lights that expand the width of the SUV’s body. The Digital Tiger Face is perhaps the most eye-catching feature of the Kia EV6. For many, the unique appeal of the front of this electric model is love at first sight.

A unique rear window appearance

The Kia EV6 also has a unique rear window appearance that sets it apart from other compact SUVs. Kia has stated the innovative rear design is intended to “realize aerodynamic performance.” In other words, the rear design is not only stylish but it also optimizes the SUV’s performance. As mentioned, the rear also features taillights that expand the entire length of the body.

An innovative and comfortable interior

Kia is not known for its creativity with its interior seating, although many of their customers prefer their more traditional interior. Despite its classic appeal, the interior of the Kia EV6 should offer next-level comfort. This includes an advanced infotainment system that features a floating center console with a bin underneath it for storage. From a design perspective, the Kia EV6 has a unique two-tone steering wheel and intriguing colors, including a stylish gold accent that is strategically crafted into the design.

Bold headlights and LED daytime running lights

The first thing you may notice about the 2022 Kia EV6 is its unique headlight design, which is the most prominent factor in its Digital Tiger Face. It also features LED daytime running lights to add even more style. In addition, the EV6 has a unique taillight design that gives it a fascinating look that is like no other.

Reviewing the Kia EV6 performance

Kia has thus far kept the specifications of the EV6 quiet, and all we have so far are images that Kia released. However, the 2022 Kia EV6 is based on the same platform as the 2022 Hyundai Ionic 5, which we do have specifics about. You can expect the Kia EV6 to feature single-motor and dual-motor options. The single-motor should generate around 215 horsepower, whereas the dual-motor should generate more than 300 horsepower.

Of course, battery life is also important to know with fully electric vehicles. Drawing from data from the Ioniq 5, many expect the 2022 Kia EV6 to fully charge in less than an hour (the Ioniq 5 is said to charge from 5 to 80 percent in only 18 minutes.) The driving range is expected to be between 250 and 300 miles.

The expected pricing of the 2022 Kia EV6

The price of the 2022 Kia EV6 has not yet been released. However, Car and Driver estimates that the price could start around $45,000, based on similar electric vehicle models. It is also unclear what different models and features of the Kia EV6 will be available to the consumer as well. This information should come available as Kia gets closer to releasing the EV6 on the market. Presumably, we should know more about the pricing in the late summer or early fall.

What’s next for Kia?

Kia has promised 11 electric vehicles released within the next five years. The 2022 Kia EV6 is the first of this 11 EV model series. They have said that each model they release will have a simple name that begins with “EV” and ends with a number. While we do not know much about the additional models, we do have some insights into what can be expected based on the Hyundai models, which share the same platform as the EV6. The EV6 should go on sale this fall, and Kia may release more information about the additional 10 EV models that they intend to release.

Reviewing the competitors to the 2022 Kia EV6

As mentioned, the 2022 Hyundai Ionic 5 is perhaps the most similar model to the Kia EV6 as they share the same platform. However, there are other competitor models as well. The 2022 Kia EV6 is an electric compact SUV. This means it will compete with other hybrid and fully electric SUVs, such as:

  • 2021 Tesla Model Y
  • 2021 Volkswagen ID.4
  • 2021 Volvo XC40
  • 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E

Each of these is a compact SUV within the same price range as the 2022 Kia EV6. Kia also has their Niro hybrid SUV. For those who want more of an upscale electric SUV that costs more, the most notable names include the 2020 Jaguar I-PACE, 2021 Audi e-Tron and the 2021 Tesla Model X.

Final thoughts

Kia intends to reveal more about the 2022 EV6 later this month. The teaser they put out with an early release of its elegant design has certainly sparked consumer interest. This, along with other EV models that Kia intends to release within the next five years, could be game-changers in the continually growing EV industry. While there is much more information needed in regard to the specifics of the 2022 Kia EV6, it does seem like a promising model with lots of potential, assuming the specifics are similar to the Hyundai Ioniq 5, with which it shares the same platform.
