The Katla: The New Italian Hypercar

So, when it comes to supercars or hypercars, their intensity and power are measured through numbers. The horsepower, the engine, and the wheel dimensions are all numbers essential to explaining how fast and well-designed the vehicle really is. So, with that in mind, get ready to have your mind blown!

Meet the Katla: 2,127 Horsepower of Raw Fury

When you hear high numbers of horsepower, like 900 or 1,000 horsepower, you expect a fast, powerful supercar. Well, the new automotive company, Giamoro Automobili, has left everyone in the dust with its new hypercar, the Katla, which has an amazing 2,127 horsepower. This is not something you see or hear about every day.

Quad-Turbo V12: Built to Dominate

This immense power is not from a series of electric motors or a V8 hybrid system. Instead, it uses a quad-turbo V12 capable of producing 1,481 pounds of torque and over 2,000 horsepower. These incredible numbers leave heavy-weight hypercars such as the Hennessey Venom F5 Evolution and Bugatti Tourbillon in the dust. This car is so powerful that it comes in second place, just under the Koenigsegg Gemera V8 hybrid.

This prototype has been developed and produced by a little-known company that prides itself on being “a new force in the world of ultra-high-performance motoring—a brand defined by vision, soul and technical audacity,” according to its website. They have also divulged that their dry-sumped engine was designed and developed entirely within their company. From an automotive engineering point of view, it will be very interesting to see how the four turbos sit between the cylinder banks and what mechanism they use to keep the engine cool.

Also, if you like the idea of feeling like James Bond or your friendly neighborhood supervillain, then this feature is for you. There are three keys that unlock different levels of power. The white key ensures that the car will drive between 395 and 789 horsepower. This is for your everyday drive. The black keys open up the engine to produce 1,647 horsepower. And then, of course, the red key will give you access to the full engine power.

Manual Mayhem and Rear-Wheel Drive Fun

You will control these powers through a seven-speed CIMA manual gearbox and a mechanical limited-slip differential to the rear wheels. Yes, you heard me correctly. It is rear-wheel drive, not all-wheel, so if you’re a fan of drifting, this is happy news. Also, it is rumored that they are in the midst of developing an eleven-speed dual-clutch.

There is no information on the top speed or 0-60mph times, but Giamoro Automobili has divulged that the car weighs 1,450kg. A lot of this weight comes from the carbon fibre monocoque that weighs 170kg on its own. The suspension features solid aluminum components, adjustable dampers and ride height, plus heave springs at both the front and rear of the car. For braking, which is very important on this car, the brakes include carbon ceramic discs to help reduce its speed. There is also a rear wing, which would help with braking too.

Final Thoughts: Will It Make Production?

The exterior of the car is equally impressive. According to Giamoro Automobili, the striking bodywork was sculpted entirely around the engine—explaining the presence of dual roof scoops. The brand also revealed that the interior draws inspiration from a fighter jet, a design we’re eager to see once images are released. All in all, this is an exciting reveal with serious potential, and enthusiasts everywhere are hoping it makes it to production.
