The Process of Ordering a Tesla

Buying a car has never been so… electrifying

Tesla has taken the automotive industry by storm. Its stock prices are ever-soaring, it’s endeavors are massive, and it is arguably changing the way in which people transport from one place to another. Gas guzzlers are out and electric is in. Haven’t you heard?

If you are unfamiliar, Tesla is the first car brand to successfully introduce an all-electric vehicle lineup. Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, constantly speaks about how Tesla vehicles are being produced in order to phase out the polluting effects of traditional gas-powered vehicles. The demand for these electric cars is astounding: In 2021, Tesla delivered just over 936,000 Teslas to new Tesla owners. To put into comparison, Ford, the oldest selling car brand in America, sold about one million more cars than Tesla did last year. For a new car brand with an entirely electric lineup, that’s pretty impressive. Teslas are changing the car market for the better, and that starts with the order process.

When the process of buying a Tesla first came to light, many people didn’t believe it. “How on earth am I supposed to order a car completely online?” That sounds ludicrous, right? Wrong! Tesla has done an impeccable job at this newfound way of car-buying. Even pre-pandemic, the online process was the only way to purchase a Tesla vehicle. And, once you experience it, you’ll never want to purchase a vehicle any other way again.

The newer, more fun way of buying a car feat. Tesla

Many, many people dread the process of buying a new or used car. Between online research, trudging from dealership to dealership, and negotiating with impossible salespeople – it’s unenjoyable for the most part. That’s what makes buying a Tesla so fun; yes, fun. You don’t have to deal with any salespeople, any negotiation, and you definitely don’t have to leave the comfort of your own home. It’s ALL done online, through Tesla’s website: www.tesla.com

At the homepage of the website, you’ll find, at the very top, a short list of the four Models to choose from: Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X. Each Tesla Model is different from the next, but all are electric, and all are great options. You can click through each model and compare pricing and size in order to best select which Model is right for you.

Once you’ve clicked “Order Now” on the Model you’ve chosen, you are prompted to choose through the various options available for that specific Model. These options include a few different things like the battery range type (how many miles you’ll get per full charge of the battery), choice of exterior color, interior color, full self-driving capability (yes, that’s actually an option on these spaceship-esque vehicles), tow hitch, etc.

What you see, is what you get when ordering a Tesla

All of these options have non-negotiable, flat pricing, so what you see is what you get. It’s kind of incredible if you think about it.

As you reach the end of your options, you will be given an estimated date for delivery, and then you will be prompted to pre-order payment. Here, you’ll be able to go over the customizable down payment, tax, delivery fee, and so on. You can make the full payment with Apple pay, a credit card, or through Tesla financing. However, all that’s needed to place your order at first is a non-refundable, $250 deposit. FYI: after you order your Tesla and make the deposit, Tesla financing will run your credit to provide you approval and an interest rate. The remainder of your payment is due on your “delivery date”, or the day you pick up your vehicle/ your vehicle is delivered to you.

One click, two click, three click, four

Then… that’s it! Ultimately, it’s only a few clicks to order a brand new (or used) Tesla. The process is shockingly simple, and a breath of fresh air compared to the traditional car-buying process. But don’t take my word for it; take it for a whirl yourself! In just a few clicks, you’ll have your very own Tesla pre-ordered and on its way to you in no time.
