5 Supercars That Fall Short Of Being Super

To earn the title of supercar, a vehicle must have it all. We’re talking speed, style, a touch of luxury, and advanced safety to boot. These artfully designed masterpieces are more than just your average sports model. Supercars can accelerate upwards of 60 mph in just a few seconds, which means, they can tear up a race track at a given time. With a super-sized price tag and superior capabilities, these bespoke sports cars are usually first-class. After all, what’s the sense of having something so flashy if it doesn’t live up to the name?

While we love a good supercar, not all models live up this expectation. The ones we’ll take a look at today are far from perfect. In fact, some automotive experts have claimed them as being the worst supercars of all time.

Dome Zero

The Dome Zero had great promise from a design standpoint. And truth be told, had this 78′ concept gone into production, it likely would have been a major success. Car collectors still bring up its iconic design today. With a 2.8 liter-inline-six from a Datsun, the performance was more than lacking. Not to mention, its driveline and structure failed to meet Japanese standards at the time. Though we applaud Dome’s efforts for crafting this futuristic showpiece, it’s a failed attempt at becoming an actual supercar.

Cizeta V16T

supercars

This Italian sportscar was designed by a group of previous Lamborghini employees in the early 1990s. As somewhat of a passionate project, it took a number of years to reach the final stages of manufacturing. Its body shape takes after the Lamborghini Diablo but with one distinct difference: the double pop-up headlights. Its engine comprised of two V8s, which is where it got its V16 namesake. Although the Cizeta V16T had the right kind of power underneath its hood, it ceased to outperform other competitors. Even the Diablo, from which the Cizeta took most of its inspiration from.

TVR Sagaris

supercars

This British car company had a reputation for building poor quality vehicles. Most broke down at some point or another despite constant repairs and maintenance. The Sagaris was no exception. This supercar came equipped with a 4-liter straight-six engine but was more known for its bad handling and subpar quality. The unique back end design also wasn’t too favorable among automotive enthusiasts at the time. All and all, this investment was far from super.

Ferrari 348

With consideration of the other questionable supercars on our list, the Ferrari 348 is the least offensive. I mean, it is a Ferrari when push comes to shove. That said, we’d have to admit that this model in particular fell short of Ferrari standards. Those who have given the 348 a spin know the rumors were true. This supercar had absolutely horrible handling! On top of that, the interior cabin left much to be desired. Despite the 3.4-liter V8 engine and notoriety, this Italian supercar was simply not a hit.

The Eliica

Talk about out-of-this-world! The Eliica debuted on the scene in 2004, looking nothing like supercar competitors. Let’s start by pointing out that this model has eight wheels… It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen. Its shape and exterior finishes resemble something out of the Jetson’s rather than a sleek and sophisticated supercar that buyers love. What the Eliica lacks in style it makes up for in performance though. Surprisingly this battery-powered model fairs well on the track, going head to head with Porsche challengers.

Let’s hear your opinion on these supercars!

In actuality, there are a number of failed automotive attempts within the supercar realm. While a good portion of those were concepts that never came to fruition, you got to admire their level of creativity. The supercars above just so happen to be some of the most hated on by motorists. Even though every carmaker will experience a miss from time to time, the supercar category demands higher expectations. Especially for the price. These days if you want to be called a supercar, or hypercar as some now call it, manufactures must put forth premier performance, luxury, quality handling, and safety too.
