The Most Popular Cars In Each State, According to this Study

More people may be working from home in 2021 than previous years, but that doesn’t mean people are giving up their favorite vehicles. The most popular cars across the country are holding their wheels firmly on the roadways, even as public transportation has decreased in popularity by 54% from March 2020 to January 2021 according to the Apple Maps Mobility Trends Report.

However, each region of the US favors different cars—and even different segments of cars altogether. As the world, weather and way of life all change from place to place, so too do the preferences for passenger vehicles.

Insurify says these are the most popular cars

According to the 2021 study from Insurify, there are ten cars that led the pack in the U.S.

The Honda Civic is most popular in eight states including Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

It’s interesting that the Civic takes us the entire West coast of the country. People must love their sporty sedans out West.

Meanwhile, the Ford F-Series pretty much took over the heartland of the country. It’s the most popular vehicle in 17 states (including Alaska)! From Idaho to West Virginia, Ford is clearly doing something right with their F-Series line of pickup trucks.

It’s not just the F-Series that’s carrying the pickup truck sector, though. Pickup sales overall have been on the rise, comprising three of the top 10 passenger models in the country. As an American icon in its own right, it makes sense that the pickup truck is so popular. And as a Ford F-150 lover myself, I’m not surprised the F-Series is at the top of the pack.

The Honda Accord has a hold on Nevada as well as much of the East coast, including New York, New Hampshire, North Carolina, South Carolina and more.

The Chevy Impala confidently maintains its position in Minnesota while the manufacturer’s Silverado is at the top of the most popular cars list in Maine and South Dakota.

The Honda Accord and Nissan Altima tied for top place in Delaware. The Altima is also popular in the South, namely in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee.

The Toyota Tacoma, Toyota Corolla, Honda CR-V and Chevrolet Malibu round out the list of the most popular cars in the US by state.

The most popular cars for 2021 put two manufacturers ahead

As for which manufacturers are winning, Honda and Chevrolet are tied for the favorite.

Whether we’re talking about manufacturers or the models they produce, one thing is wildly clear. Regions have their unique preferences. One car is often popular along the coast while others take over a chunk of the nation.

Whatever region we’re looking at, all of the most popular cars can be considered affordable brands. They’ve passed tests for the IIHS on things like lighting and safety, and they don’t break the bank (even when purchased brand-new). The same cannot be said for luxury manufacturers like Lexus, Range Rover and Tesla. In fact, this list of cars averages an MSRP of $25,251—a whopping $12,600 less than the national MSRP average of $37,851. Clearly, the luxury cars on the market skew this number higher.

My Ford Fusion sedan may not be on this list, but I’m not offended in the least.

    1. My good old Accord has not done me wrong, yet. It’s a great little car.

    2. Interesting. This is really cool to see on a map like this.
