The Only Factory White Ferrari 250 GTO Is Going to Auction
Ferrari equals speed, precision, and luxury. There are so many models that have pushed and broken the engineering barrier in different eras. Among these models stands the white Ferrari 250 GTO, which enthusiasts widely regard as one of the greatest sports cars of all time. In the 60s, Ferrari painted other 250 GTOs in the famous Rosso Cina, a shade that cemented Ferrari’s iconic red brand identity.
Every time one of the 250 GTOs turns up on the second-hand market or at auction, it is always in high demand among Ferrari collectors and enthusiasts. So what happens when Ferrari auctions the sole factory-white 250 GTO? Collectors dream of owning it, not only because of its renown but also because it stands as the only white 250 GTO Ferrari ever produced.
The Bianco Speciale
This 250 GTO, nicknamed “the Bianco Speciale,” will be available for purchase in Florida in January, but for anyone interested in seeing such a spectacle, it is on display at the Monterey Car Week in California this week. This 1962 Ferrari remains in excellent condition. The description notes that experts have “maintained, repaired, and refinished” it but never restored it. The “Bianco Speciale” not only dazzles the eye but has also raced on many historic tracks with legendary drivers like Graham Hill, Jack Sears, and Mike Parkes behind the wheel.

What Makes This 250 GTO Unique
The auction house, Mecum, where it is to be sold, has not given an estimate, but it would be wise to expect this car to go for at least eight figures, as the most recent sale of a 250 GTO two years ago reached a staggering $52 million. Mecum has released a statement announcing their elation at acquiring such a piece of automotive history. They said, “It is here as an anomaly of automotive majesty, and it will soon arrive at the Mecum auction block, where it will find a new caretaker capable of celebrating and honouring its grandeur.” Whoever manages to buy such a car will become a member of the most exclusive car club in the world with the most unique Ferrari of them all.
So, what makes this car so special? It has a V-12 engine that could produce up to 300 horsepower. Its initial owner was John Coombs, who was living in the UK and owned a race car team. From there, it began competing in various events across the country. After Coombs, Jack Sears was the car’s steward for 30 years until the Microsoft executive, Jon Shirley, bought the car and brought it to the US. Ferrari Classiche built this engine specifically for the vehicle, and the sale also includes a second engine for vintage racing.
