Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Overtakes Rimac’s Nürburgring Lap Record

Nürburgring is the epitome of track racing. If you have a new supercar and want to prove its status to the global automotive industry, you need to bring it to the Nürburgring. But not only get it here, but also achieve an excellent lap. It has a fearsome reputation among the best drivers in the world due to its large size, multiple corners, no speed limit, and the incredible speed you can potentially hit in the right car. While F1 cars cannot race on this track due to safety reasons, any other vehicle can try its hand.

Current Production Car Champions

For a production car, the new Mercedes AMG ONE has the fastest time, completing the full distance in 6 minutes and 29.09 seconds. For a production electric vehicle, the Rimac Nevera held the title with a lap time of 7 minutes and 5.298 seconds, beating the previous record set by the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT by 2.5 seconds. But for Rimac, that title is no more.

Xiaomi’s Record-Breaking Achievement

Xiaomi SU7 Ultra now holds the title of the fastest electric vehicle around the Nürburgring track with an incredible lap time of 7 minutes and 4.95 seconds, just narrowly taking the top spot.

The Prototype That Started It All

Xiaomi fans were not surprised by this time, as they teased the power and speed of the SU7 Ultra by sending out a stripped-back prototype around the track last year. And of course, it blew everyone away, clocking up an incredible lap of 6 minutes and 46.87. Now, this prototype was nowhere near the specification it needed to be, and with all the added extras, the finished product would be heavier. But it got everyone excited as the prototype completed its lap three seconds faster than the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

Earning Elite Status

After this record-breaking drive with the SU7 Ultra prototype last year, Xiaomi was invited to join Nürburgring’s “Industriepood,” which is a members-only group where brands and suppliers test and develop vehicles and their features at the Nürburgring track for only a short period of sixteen weeks a year.

Engineering Excellence Under the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Hood

So what is under its hood that makes it so quick? It contains a trio of motors that work together to produce a staggering 1,527 horsepower and enough torque to send a spaceship into orbit. The SU7 Ultra can complete 0-62mph in 1.97 seconds and can get to a top speed of 217mph.

With the addition of Pirelli P Zero tyres and stoppers from AP Racing, it is a showstopper. While it is not as light as its prototype, it is still 500kg lighter than the average production car due to the heavy amounts of carbon fibre in its exterior body. Also, it contains a new aerodynamic external kit that, when the vehicle is at its fastest, can create over 2.1 tonnes of downforce. These are incredible features to have on one car.

First Attempt, Record Broken

Oh, on top of all that, Xiaomi said it managed to beat the Rimac Nevera’s time on the Nürburgring on its first attempt. No wonder they thought it was fitting to add a 24-carat gold and carbon fibre badge to this car. It is ready to break all barriers, and it is exciting to see it.
