2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe: A Review

Genesis is a new brand that has dove headfirst into swimming with the big players in the automotive industry. It has only been around a decade, but it is producing cars with market rivals such as Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. But nevertheless, this is a brand that is growing rapidly and turning heads, not just for its stunning exterior design but for what’s underneath it. Its newest release, the 2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe, is keeping up the standard set by its predecessors.

The Evolution of the GV80: What’s New?

The GV80 Coupe is the newer, sportier version of the standard GV80 SUV, so what extras does the new Genesis release possess?

Shared Qualities and New Design Features

First of all, the GV80 SUV is the top vehicle in the Genesis line, so that is a great place to start. The Coupe and standard SUV share many of the same qualities, including several dimensions like wheelbase and height. But its length has increased by one inch. At the front is a crest-shaped grille and twin-line headlights that are now a part of Genesis’s signature look. On the outside, the Coupe has a more sloped roof, which merges into a large duckbill spoiler.

Interior Comfort and Design

The sloping roof does not affect the interior of the SUV, and it still has plenty of headspace in the back seat. However, due to this design, the GV80 Coupe has gotten rid of the third row of seats. It was pretty cramped and it was unsuitable for adults, especially tall ones. The interior is where this car comes into its own. The upholstery is a mixture of leather, carbon fiber, suede, wood, and metal. The seats are comfortable and have additional functions like a massage option.  On the dash is a 27-inch screen containing everything you will need to control the car, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Enhanced Performance and Engine Options

As this is a sportier vehicle, it does not possess the regular four-cylinder base engine seen in the standard GV80 SUV. Instead, the Coupe contains a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 engine, which can produce up to 375 horsepower. This engine is an optional extra on the original SUV, but it is standard on the Coupe. To spice things up, there is a more powerful engine option that includes a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 engine with an electrically driven supercharger. This powertrain can produce up to 409 horsepower. But for the extra power, you will have to pay an extra $5800.

Performance Comparisons and Driving Experience

Even though the engine is excellent, it is hard to know if the Coupe will match up to its market rivals, like the BMW X5 M60i, as we do not know its track time. However, the Genesis G90 Sedan weighs around the same as the Coupe. It has a time of 5.1 seconds, so it is a good estimation that its track time is around this.

Fuel Efficiency and Driving Modes

Along with more power, the supercharged version has marginally better fuel economy than the standard one, which earns the same MPG values on the highway and higher values in the city. This option also has a Sport+ mode that adds weight to the car’s steering and softens the stability control, giving more power and better handling.

Luxury Over Sportiness: The GV80’s True Strength

Even though Genesis is trying to market this vehicle as a sporty, powerful option, it is better at being a luxury SUV. Its acceleration and eight-speed automatic transmission are smooth and effortless. It is an all-wheel drive as standard, and no matter what drive mode you are in, you are in for a soothing, calm ride. The Coupe has additional soundproofing and a noise-canceling system, especially when the artificial engine’s voices are turned off. Also, the electronic control dampers are excellent in removing any bumps on the road, giving a smooth ride.

Final Thoughts: A Luxury SUV with Impressive Features

Overall, the GV80 Coupe is a luxury SUV with an impressive engine and an equally impressive interior. Even BMW and Porsche drivers will be taken aback by it.
