Adventurous, All-in, & Tough: A Close Look at The 2024 Toyota Tacoma

The Toyota Tacoma has been eagerly awaiting a full redesign for 8 years! Even though the brand has enjoyed climbing sales numbers, it has fallen behind competitors recently. The first ingredient for the 2024 model is a completely new frame. This brand-new additive is shared with the Tundra and Land Cruiser. Trucks are now equipped with both leaf and coil spring suspensions.

Numerous turbocharged 4-cylinders replace previous 4 and 6-cylinder options. Many EV enthusiasts are now thrilled with a hybrid option for the king of the range. In 2022, the Tacoma was the best-selling mid-size pickup in the nation. Following, we will take a close look at the 2024 Toyota Tacoma to see how it holds up!

A Close Look at The 2024 Toyota Tacoma

Aligned with growing demand, the Tacoma now boasts multiple off-road versions. The hybrid version cranks out more than 300 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. At first glance, the interior looks like a scaled-down Tundra. The TRD and TRD Pro trims sport a very upbeat and bright appearance. The Tacomas and higher-trim Limited models boast a bid more toned-down persona.

Base models are equipped with a basic 7-inch infotainment screen. Climbing up the trim level scale yields a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 14-inch infotainment screen. There are very practical shortcut buttons on the driver’s side for easy access. The Autoblog crew happened to love the new Tacoma, but had a few difficulties with the navigation features during testing.

Diving Into The Tacoma’s Dimensional Status:

The Tacoma stares down competition such as the Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Jeep Gladiator. The two cab options are Access and Double-Style. The Access cab has the longer bed as its only option. The Double-Style cab has the short bed as standard but can be fitted for heftier cargo duty. There is no longer a V6 option, with 2.4-liter 4-cylinders taking center stage.

The entry-level engine cranks out 278 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. The engine paired with the 6-speed automatic is good for 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Each trim level is available with either two or 4-wheel drive. The hybrid powertrain combines the 4-cylinder with a brand-new electric model and is rated at 326 horsepower.

Spirited + Sharp Standard Features:

Entry-level 2024 Toyota Tacoma models come with push-button start along with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Rear seating becomes an option with the Double-Cab trim. The TRD and Limited models offer coil-spring suspension. The Larger 12.3-inch instrument cluster comes on the TRD models and up.

Higher trims will provide power side steps, a sunroof, wireless charging, a head-up display, and heated and ventilated seats. The TRD Pro is an off-roader’s well-equipped Swiss Army knife! It slays with 33-inch tires, a skid plate, steel bumpers, and off-road lighting. You’ll also be conquering inclines with the likes of forged front upper control arms.

Off-Road Terrain with the Tacoma’s Candor:

This beast is so capable that it even has air shocks to help stabilize the front seat! The Trailhunter trim is designated for the slow and skillful crawl. Old Man Emu shocks are on deck to stabilize the journey. There’s also an on-board air compressor to assist with necessary inflating duties.

The Multi-Terrain Select system has five modes to regulate wheelspin. It provides the advantage of adjusting the traction control and engine throttle to fit the terrain at hand. Hill Start Assist Control provides an extra boost to get up hills and keep you from pitching backward. The Bilstein Shocks can soak up additional impacts from challenging terrain.

The “Added Cool” From CALTY Design Center

All of these new Tacoma trims were styled by North American CALTY design centers. They were definitely effective at finishing the truck off with a distinct flair. They added high-mounted LED headlights, hood scoops, and side functional air intakes. One of their main objectives was to “maintain garagability.”

They also successfully achieved an impressive maximum ground clearance of 9.5 inches. The all-important off-roaders approach angle is 33.8 degrees. The high lift, slimmer body, and large tires give the new Tacoma a very athletic stance. This is the type of rig you can easily envision conquering a Baja 1000 route without any difficulty!

Final & Dust-Dispersing Thoughts:

We were a bit surprised to learn that this truck’s relative Toyota Tundra had not been reviewed so well this past year. The Motor Trend crew appreciated the new Tacoma for its “brashness and thorough revamp.” This smaller model is a bit more prone to success, and already has a very loyal following. There is also quite a bit more overall depth across the entire lineup.

No matter how old the namesake gets, these improvements should always keep it relevant. The latest Safety Sense 3.0 is also a very impressive suite of driver assist tech available with this line. What do you think of the new 2024 Toyota Tacoma? Is it amazing enough to hold diehard truck lovers’ attention, or will foes such as the Ram 1500 and F150 overpower it? Let us know what you think in the comments below, or check out another article about the Tundra.
