AT4x-traordinary Adventures: The 2024 GMC Sierra’s Off-Road Odyssey

Tackling boulders and bombing fire roads are a few of nature’s best gifts to truck lovers! For many years, trucks with off-road ability had foregone luxury touches. The Real Truck review team eagerly got their hands on the 2024 GMC Sierra AT4x this month. They also found that the 2024 Sierra’s Off-Road Odyssey was incredibly impressive and capable!

The 2024 GMC Sierra’s Off-Road Odyssey

This truck is incredibly difficult to beat if cost is no issue at all! With a healthy dose of competition in this segment, many wondered if it was truly legit. After a thorough testing, it was determined that everything about it simply rocks. It strangely does an intense battle against the Land Rover instead of the Ford Raptor.

V8 Roar on the Rocks: A Rowdy Rough Path Conqueror

The 1500 AT4x derives power from GMC’s 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8. This boisterous beast cranks out 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. It makes for a grunty 8,700-lb towing capacity. The engine is paired with a 10-speed 10L80 MF6 automatic transmission. This gearbox was a congenial collaboration between Ford and GM.

The 10L80 is quick to downshift when reserve power is needed. When the going gets a bit rigid and demanding, it skillfully holds gears intact. The off-road additions bestowed upon this massive machine are impressive! Multimatic was the chosen candidate for the dampers and shocks. This amazing brand draws its inspiration from complex directional control valves.

The Trail-Ready Titan: Sierra’s AEV Makeover

The Multimatic dampers don’t react as intensely as others to oil viscosity. This means the driver won’t sacrifice performance when the entire rig gets hot. They can sense changing load conditions and quickly adapt. Multimatic can also provide a greater sense of comfort during lighter-load runs.

The AEV edition adds very durable full steel front and back bumpers. These include recovery points that will dislodge you from an unfortunate situation. The front bumper also boasts winch capability. Boron skid plates are in place to guard the valuables underneath. The element of Boron provides segment-leading passenger impact protection.

AEV’s Superb Stamp of Approval:

AEV was founded in the late 1990’s when Dave Harriton began experimenting with TJ Wranglers. He quickly found that his skills were above and beyond the market’s norm! His early designs became a reality after winning a business school award from the University of Montana. He was then able to find partners in Detroit who could seal the deal with OE Engineering

AEV’s products endure testing in both controlled environments and gritty real terrain. They make awesome HD grills, Windshield banners, suspensions, fender flares, and more. Their heat reduction hoods are prepped for static and dynamic scenarios. The Boron skid plates pack a 3.5 times harder protective punch than common steel!

Defying Dirt + Doling out a Posh Interior:

Off-road features are quintessential right now for grabbing attention. This review team declared that it’s the high quality interior here that elevates the enjoyment factor. Here it was evident that there was an effort to offer high-quality screens while remaining on the simpler side.

As screen sizes move in the same direction as inflation, there are power struggles. Trucks must now possess a sensible balance that embraces new technology. The screen in the GMC AT4x is much higher-quality than those in its Chevy counterparts. Black leather seats are paired nicely with very cool white accents.

Rearing a Newly-Repped Head in Ram’s Direction:

The Ram 1500 line has proudly nailed down many awards and accolades! Named on Car and Driver’s “10Best” for five years straight, it has long been known for its interior. Here is where GMC wisely doubled down on the first-class factor. The better part of a decade ago, off-road capability had just reached new heights.

As there has been ample time to progress, today’s best trucks can offer the best of both worlds. The Ram TRX’s raw power will sway some of the savviest of the adventure crowd. But navigating longer distances in the AT4x will make a mark among those who enjoy sprawling out. The Chevy Silverado was once complained about due to a very plastic interior, but GMC’s effort here meaningfully improves matters.

The final word on Power, Performance, and Prowess:

A few different reviews as of late have claimed that truck owners spend the majority of their time on pavement. When the time comes to wander through sage and oblivion, the help from AEV is off-the-charts good! What do you think of the 2024 GMC Sierra AT4x? Does it look like a new modern-era powerhouse? Or do you prefer another “big rig namesake” on your jobsite? Let us know what you think in the comments below, or check out another article about the trucks on the “Yellowstone” TV set.
