Watch Out Carvana, CarBravo Is Here To Compete

General Motors is proving the best is yet to come. After a big announcement last year regarding its path to electric production, the American automaker is taking things one step further by entering the online car market in 2022. On Tuesday, GM announced its exciting new venture, revealing CarBravo, an elevated online platform for used car shoppers.

Here is a brief recap of everything we know so far, including a projection date of when CarBravo will become available.

Everything to know about CarBravo

Within the last five years we’ve watched online car buying go from a remote concept to something completely attainable. Although this is largely in part to Carvana’s instant success, the pandemic certainly persuaded consumers to give online car shopping a try. I mean, why step foot in a dealership when you can conveniently shop from your couch? Even so, there are pros and cons to this new way of car buying.

For starters, it’s hard to judge the true condition of a used vehicle just off pictures alone. On top of that, how do you know you’ll enjoy the drive or handling once behind the wheel? Although these worries likely cross the minds of many consumers nowadays, GM’s recent investment in CarBravo makes it clear the online trend is here to stay. As for CarBravo, the competition has arrived.

What used cars will retail on CarBravo?

While shopping on CarBravo, you’ll get direct access to a variety of vehicles under GM’s umbrella. This includes Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac models of varying maturities. Perhaps those brands don’t interest you though. Luckily, there is no need to mope. CarBravo offers online viewers a range of  competing brandnames as well. Therefore, you can browse thousands of models, from at any time and any place.

When will CarBravo become available?

The online platform is set to go live this spring. No set date has been revealed, but it’s likely we’ll know more in the upcoming weeks. As advertised, potential shoppers will have the option to sell or buy a vehicle from CarBravo. They can buy online, through a dealership, or a little bit of both. What’s more, select locations will offer at-home test drives and home delivery for shoppers who prefer to stay away from busy dealerships in 2022.

What features will CarBravo include?

To uphold its integrity, CarBravo will put every model through the same onboarding process. Online shoppers will have access to GM’s digital retail platform with the following standard features:

  • 360-degree viewing
  • Vehicle history reports
  • General Motors inspection + reconditioning
  • Straightforward pricing
  • Guaranteed online offers

Aside from these features, car shoppers can look forward to standard warranty and free trial subscriptions to OnStar and SiriusXM Radio with select models.

Better than Carvana? We’ll see

The success of Carvana is a testament to how much the automotive industry has evolved thus far. In Q3 of 2021, Carvana hit record numbers with $3.48 billion in revenue, an increase of 125% YoY. The used car market is surely on fire right now due to the high entry price for new vehicles. You simply can’t find a deal like you used to, which is why a number of drivers have considered used models instead. As seen, GM’s decision to get into online used car sales is right on par with consumer interests.

According to Steve Carlisle, GM executive Vice President and president of GM North America, “CarBravo is designed to provide customers the convenience to shop how they want, where they want – online, at the dealership or both.” The modern shopper expects an array of choices, from the products they shop for to the avenues they choose to shop on.

In conclusion

CarBravo will definitely challenge the success of Carvana, CarMax and other online retailers in due time. But for now, we’re just glad another reliable online source has come to light. Since finding a new or used vehicle has become more stressful on account of low inventories, the timing of CarBravo’s release couldn’t be any more on point. We hope by spring that this online shopping platform will offer convenience and great access to the used models still on the market.
