Max Verstappen’s Porsche GT2 Is Coming to Auction

Max Verstappen, the decorated racing driver, is auctioning his Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport. This rare car will be sold by the iconic auction house, RM Sotheby’s. The German car brand built only 200 of these models, making it an extremely rare find. Its limited quantity and ownership by one of the greatest racing drivers of all time guarantee strong interest.

Who Is Max Verstappen?

So, who is Max Verstappen? Verstappen was born in the Netherlands and throughout his career has won four Formula One World Championships in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024, respectively. As it happens, very few drivers have achieved this level of success, and he is one of only four to have four championships under his belt. He is also the youngest driver to start in a Formula One race, making his debut on the track at only seventeen years old.

Verstappen would not be a stranger to track driving, obviously, but he especially likes track driving in a Porsche. Recently, he obtained a special license that allows him to compete in the Nurburgring 24 Hours, and he used a Porsche Cayman 718 GT4 CS to do it.

Being a driver of this caliber means he needs a car made out of the same raw talent and power, and boy oh boy, it is.

Introducing Max Verstappen’s Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport is the most powerful GT sports car that they have ever built. So powerful that it is not street-legal. Porsche created it for track days and Clubsport events around the world. It contains a 3.8-litre aluminum six-cylinder rear-mounted twin-turbo horizontally opposed engine with rigid mounting. This engine can produce over 700 hp at 7,000 rpm. It weighs nearly 1400kg with a performance-based 7-speed PDK gearbox that has a dual clutch transmission.

Within this car, Porsche has managed to perfect its performance through an optimized intercooler with redesigned supply and return air feed and a water-spray system. Engineers designed its chassis specifically for the race track, and paired with three-way shock absorbers on the front and rear axles, the car adapts to any track anywhere in the world. The pairing of this engineering together gives the driver total precision and maximum control and which is why Max Verstappen had to have it.

The Sotheby’s Auction

According to Sotheby’s listing, Verstappen and his father had only put 1,361 miles when they drove it at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in 2020. Not to mention, during the filming of a documentary about the racing star. To make the car even more valuable, Verstappen has signed the car in three places: on the hood, on the interior dashboard, and, of course, on the engine bay. A picture shows the championship-winning driver signing the car, included with this purchase.

Estimated Value

The race car driver may have paid the full purchase price of $475,000, but the car is expected to fetch between $550,000 and $650,000 thanks to its uniqueness. This auction will close on September 25, and the car in question is currently located in Arizona until the sale is complete.
