Popular Models Converting to Electric

As electric vehicles become more popular, manufacturers are working to keep up with the demand through new models being introduced to their lineups. However, they are also working to convert popular vehicles to an electric platform, hoping to capitalize on brand loyalty with some of their most iconic automobiles. Here is a look at some models that are moving to electric now or in the near future.

Which models are converting to electric?

Dodge Charger

Perhaps one of the most iconic American muscle cars to ever cruise down the highway, Dodge has decided to make the move towards electric with the Charger. With more sports cars proving that converting to an electric powertrain doesn’t have to mean a reduction in performance, the Charger promises to showcase this idea in style.

The SRT Hellcat will be the model of the Charger that becomes electrified. Known as the eCharger, the vehicle is still in the early development stages, so a lot isn’t known about its specs. However, early information suggests that a quad-electric motor design can generate up to 2000 horsepower and 1500 lb.-ft of torque to reach zero to 60 mph in 1.5 seconds with a top speed of 220 mph.

Jeep Wrangler

Another iconic model that is moving towards electrification is the rough-and-tumble Jeep Wrangler. This SUV sits in a class of its own with amazing off-road capability. With the addition of the Wrangler 4xe to the lineup as a plug-in hybrid, a full electric model is just a few changes away.

The manufacturer has unveiled a concept version, which has been dubbed the Wrangler Magneto. However, a product on the market is still a few years away. The concept is a 4×4 model with the capability buyers have come to expect from the Jeep Wrangler. Magneto is drawn off the Rubicon and is able to provide up to 285 horsepower. A unique feature of the model is a six-speed manual transmission. This will appeal to off-road enthusiasts even though it isn’t necessary for an electric vehicle.

Ford F-150

Dubbed the F-150 Lightning, Ford has captured the best of the F-Series and put it in an electric truck. Due out on the market in 2022, this full-size pickup showcases what electric vehicles should be. Not only does it provide an impressive range, the truck has enough power to generate electricity for a house for up to three days or longer if conserved.

The Ford F-150 Lightning continues to provide capability and practicality as expected with the brand. Charge this electric conversion with a 120V or 240V outlet. In addition, there is no need for special equipment for a range up to 300 miles. Since the model is first and foremost a workhorse, it’s no surprise that you get up to 10,000 pounds of maximum towing capacity.

Volkswagen ID.4

One of the first electric SUVs that will be on the market, the 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 is impressive and practical. While this model is new rather than a current staple in the lineup, it’s early arrival shows great promise. The ID.4 intrigues buyers who are looking for a model that is both efficient and functional. With a range of 260 miles, it takes about 10 minutes on a DC fast charger to reach 62 miles. This model shows how functional an electric model can be for families with ample interior space for passengers and cargo.

All-wheel drive for the Volkswagen ID.4 allows you to travel with confidence. A second motor manages power for the front wheels for faster acceleration while offering improved handling. As a Top Safety Pick+ by IIHS, this electric SUV is an ideal choice for families.

    1. Electric vehicles are the future and converting iconic brands shows this.

    2. The new e charger is going to sport the Fratzog Logo, which hasnt been used since the 70’s. The logo seems futuristic and a perfect match for the new e charger. Design language in the 60s and 70 was very forward looking and making things like the Fratzog logo seem relevant today.

    3. Oh wow! An electric Jeep with off road capabilities sounds interesting.

    4. Yes! I’m excited about this eCharger!
