What to look for…

Over time, your vehicle’s headlights may become worn and faded on the exterior. Foggy headlamps decrease the appeal of your car, and nothing takes the sportiness out of a coupe more than unattractive headlights.

If your headlights are cloudy, you could end up spending a lot of your time cleaning and defogging the two and even a hefty amount of cash paying someone to refurbish them. Though your headlights can be cleaned to look like new, other factors are to be inspected as well.

Sports cars go through it all. From high speeds, powerful engines that cause extensive vibration, and the weather elements, there may be faulty headlight parts that you may not notice. Loose or burnt-out bulbs may begin to alter levels of brightness, and harnessing connections overtime can become corroded or unreliable.

Before you sell your old sports car, or before you purchase one, it’s smart to inspect these matters so you or the future car owner can travel the highways at night confidently. Be sure to look out for any cracks or breaks within the exterior and interior of the headlight housing. This type of damage allows water and dirt into your headlamps and overtime will destroy the functioning components of your headlights.

Why replace headlights on an older sports coupe?

Three main points that make a visually worthy sports car.

  • A clean and immaculate paint job
  • Quality wheels and tires
  • Sharp and vibrant headlights and tail lights

When this sports coupe trifecta is complete, you bring the whole package of style, performance, and agility to the roads and highways. If you’re new to the world of car restoration, or just wanting to kick off your new car ownership; with an inexpensive upgrade that you can do on your own, headlights and tail lights are the perfect components to tackle first.

The main reason why drivers consider changing their headlights is the color. Dull headlight brightness makes your vehicle look outdated and unattractive. Typically old halogen headlight bulbs give off a dim appeal, and today it’s simple to find aftermarket HID or LED headlights that give the illuminated white or blue light that  brings your vehicle’s nighttime appearance and visibility to the next level. However, there are newly made halogen lights that are brighter in illumination, and offer enhanced clarity on the roads.

Note: It’s important to double-check your state’s headlight laws and regulations to avoid being ticketed after installing lights. Depending on where you live, some HID and LED brightness levels may be illegal.

No matter what type of sports car you drive, finding OEM or aftermarket headlights online is just as easy as ordering a new pair of headphones on Amazon. Locate your new headlights or tail lights that specifically fit your car’s year, make, and model to optimize the style and illumination of your sports coupe.

    1. Sometimes on a smaller sports coupe you have to go through the wheel well to get to the rear of the headlight because the engine bays are smaller.

    2. This article made me realize that I need to find another project car, and it should be a coupe.

    3. I disagree about checking your state’s law before replacing your headlight. If you are replacing the headlight with an identical product, no need to worry about interfering with any laws.

    4. I agree that upgrading your headlights is probably one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to improve the look of your car, If your selling it can increase the value very much, a nice set of aftermarket headlights that you may only have to pay $100 or $200 for could remove the haggling point of a buyer trying to say they need to spend $1000 or more to replace the headlights.

    5. Fun fact about the C7 Corvette, you have to remove the front wheels to replace the headlight bulbs.

    6. Clean wheels and new headlights definitely make a huge difference on the appearance. An older car with clean tires and rims really draws the eyes.
